(No icon appears on my desktop however.) I have my computer set to open Aperture when I connect my D90, which typically works fine. I have a MacBook (not Pro) with Snow Leopard and my Nikon D90 is recognized by both iPhoto and Aperture, which I mainly use. I wonder if your working as intended line will change if yours stops functioning like it has been? I'm certain it is a mac issue because it was working and then it stopped after a system update. Googling this topic it's clear to see that this is stumping more than just a few ppl. Works fine on my old as crap PC still however. I just bought a new D90 and have a Macbook Pro and was having the same problems - I installed all the software updates, installed Nikon transfer, tried a card reader (which obviously doesn't support SDHD).ĭid you guys realise there is an SDHD slot built in to your MBP?ĭcloes when my camera is tethered I can NOT see it in image capture app or any other application.well, that is, not anymore. Why did Nikon take out this feature in D700 & D90? they are the only 2 DSLR in the current lineup that doesn't use mass storage. Yah know I should have included this subject when I did the D90 survey. If you're importing right to you're photo app then it doesn't matter, if you want to import into the file system use Image Capture.app, if you want to drag and drop onto the file system use a card reader. Mass storage mode: it acts like a USB thumb drive or other "dumb" storage device.ĭ80 had an option to switch between mass storage and ptp modes, can't say why Nikon didn't put the option on the D90 as well, but its fairly inconsequential. PTP Mode: the camera functions like a device and a camera and is ready to do things like automatic camera control. No new drivers, no broken old drives, no incompatibility with OS X. see it in any photo application to import images, I can see it in the image capture app, create an automator script to watch for new photos and auto import them into my app, etc. In my experience the Nikon D90 works *exactly* as one would expect a camera in PTP mode to work - I can work with it tethered. Nikon chose to no give you the option on the D90 to have the camera respond in what other Nikon cameras call "mass storage" mode. ( this has nothing to do with mac or 3rd party drivers at all. ![]() A card reader is the way to go, just make sure it's SDHD compatible. )Īs far back as I can remember (mac se days) macs have had this sort of problem with 3rd party drivers, when you do find a solution it's usually some half measure bata version, thats why I switched to a pc, now it's just plug and play. With Extremee III cards it's a lot faster. Mo'funk I have an PB G4 1.25ghz and the speed is super slow when I use my Sandisk Ultra SD card. taking the card out of the camera seems more trouble than how quickly I can just attach a cable and suck out the pictures via USB. Personally, I‘ve been so impressed by the USB transfer speeds that I have not felt any reason to get a card reader. I've since also installed Nikon Transfer to get videos off the camera. I use Lightroom and have had no problems. I needed to update Aperture though for it to recognize the NEF files ![]() I heard you needed to install Nikon Transfer for it to work plugged directly to the camera to Mac I have done it through my computer as well as reformatted the card through the camera and the only way to delete photos is to put the card in my Leica and delete. Like others though, i've long ago gotten into the habit of using a usb card reader so I never really notice this change from the D80. It shouldn't make much of a difference if you're using most photo apps to get at your images and import them, but you won't see it as a plain external drive on the file system to be able to drags things around finder first. Thanks for the help!!!ĭ90 doesn't have an option for PTP vs mass storage. I use Lightroom to upload my photo's which works great. Works much better than the bundled software, although you can't batch rename the files.Įveryone thanks for your quick replies. If you have leopard, just use image capture application (comes installed with leopard) to transfer the images/movies. You can check the System Profiler under USB to see if the macbook is recognizing the camera. I have noticed that when I connect the D90 up using the USB cable, it does not appear on the desktop like the D50 did, but iphoto or aperture can still download the pictures from it - but you have to open them first. ![]() Same here brought a card reader from Tescos for £10 Originally posted ages ago.Ī Few Photos by Arie edited this topic ages ago. There are already many threads on the topic, but regardless, do yourself a favor and get a card reader. Has anyone run into this problem or knows how I can solve it? I then tired the D90 on my work laptop (PC) and it worked fine. I just got my D90 today and tried to download some images I took to my MacBook.
